FAQ's

How is This Style of Breathwork Different From Others?

Breathwork is an umbrella term that encompasses a wide range of breathing exercises, which can sometimes be confusing. Some styles of breathwork, like basic pranayama or box breathing, are generally safe to practice on your own and are often used for relaxation or stress relief.

However, the style of breathwork I facilitate is based on deeper, more intense practices like Holotropic Breathwork® and Grof® Breathwork. These sessions are designed to access deeper layers of the psyche, potentially leading to profound emotional release, altered states of consciousness, and transformative experiences. Because of the depth and intensity of this work, it is important to have a trained facilitator guide you through the process to ensure safety and provide support.

Unlike lighter forms of breathwork that can be done independently, this style requires careful attention to your emotional and physical state, as well as professional guidance to navigate any challenging experiences that may arise. The presence of a facilitator ensures that you are held in a safe and supportive environment throughout the entire session.

Neurological Disorders: Including epilepsy, history of seizures, or other neurological conditions.

Can I Eat Before a Session?

Avoid heavy meals right before, as this can make breathing more difficult.

It’s recommended to have a light meal or snack a few hours before the session, or you might choose to fast, depending on the time of your appointment and your experience level.

The key is to listen to your body—it knows the way! Whether you decide to eat lightly or fast, make sure you feel comfortable and ready for the session.

How Do I Find a Facilitator That is Right for Me?

Choosing the right breathwork facilitator is crucial for ensuring a safe, supportive, and transformative experience. By following these steps, you can find a facilitator who not only has the necessary skills and experience but also adheres to high ethical standards, ensuring your breathwork journey is both safe and impactful.

Research Their Background and Experience: Look into the facilitator’s training, certifications, and overall experience. Be aware that many people facilitate breathwork sessions without formal certifications, so it’s important to dig deeper into their qualifications.

Understand Their Approach: Different facilitators have different focuses—some may prioritize emotional release, others might concentrate on spiritual exploration or physical healing. Make sure their approach aligns with your personal goals and needs.

Schedule a Discovery Call: It’s helpful to have a conversation with the facilitator before committing to a session. This will give you a sense of whether you connect with them and feel comfortable in their guidance.

Ask About Their Training Program: Not all certifications are created equal. Some "certificates" can be obtained over a weekend, while others require months or even years of training. Ask how long their certification program was and what it entailed. A well-trained facilitator will be able to discuss their training in detail, including whether their program covered a comprehensive code of ethics. This should include important topics like physical touch, boundaries, safety, and medical contraindications.

Ask What Style They Facilitate: It’s important to know what style of breathwork the facilitator practices. If they cannot clearly explain their style, that’s a red flag.

Attend a Group Workshop First: Before committing to a private session, consider attending a group workshop. This will give you a chance to experience the facilitator’s style and energy in a more accessible setting.

Ask Questions: Don’t hesitate to ask any questions or express concerns. A good facilitator will be open, communicative, and willing to address your needs.

Trust Your Intuition: Your instincts are a powerful guide. If you feel a sense of trust, safety, and connection with a facilitator, that’s a strong indicator they may be the right fit for you.

Read Testimonials or Reviews: Check out what others have said about their experiences with the facilitator. Reviews and testimonials can provide valuable insights into what you can expect.

What if I Feel Overwhelmed During the Session?

You Are in the Driver's Seat!

It’s not uncommon to experience intense emotions during breathwork. The wonderful thing about breathwork is that it’s a natural process, and you are completely in control of your experience. If at any point you feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable, you’re encouraged to slow down your breathing or take a break. Slowing the breath can help to ease any intensity and bring you back to a more grounded state.

Remember, you are always in control of your breathwork journey. If you need to, you can adjust the pace to match what feels right for you in the moment. The facilitator will be there to provide support and guidance throughout the session, ensuring you feel safe and supported as you navigate your experience.

This approach allows you to engage with the process at your own pace, knowing that you can adjust as needed to stay comfortable and centered.

How Long Do The Benefits Last?

Breathwork offers a range of benefits that can be felt both immediately after a session and over time with regular practice. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect in the short term and long term:

Short-Term Benefits:

Immediate Stress Relief:
Deep breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system, quickly reducing stress and promoting relaxation.

Emotional Release: You may experience a release of pent-up emotions, leading to a sense of relief and emotional clarity.

Mental Clarity: After a session, many people feel mentally clear and focused, with a heightened sense of mindfulness.

Physical Relaxation: Breathwork helps to alleviate tension in the body, easing headaches, muscle tightness, and shallow breathing.

Long-Term Benefits:

Increased Resilience to Stress:
Regular practice strengthens your ability to manage stress, making you more resilient in challenging situations.

Improved Emotional Regulation: Over time, breathwork enhances your ability to manage emotions, promoting a balanced emotional state.

Deeper Self-Awareness: Breathwork fosters a deeper connection with yourself, leading to personal growth and spiritual exploration.

Better Physical Health: Consistent practice can improve lung capacity, lower blood pressure, and boost immune function.

Sustained Mental Clarity: Regular breathwork supports ongoing mental clarity, focus, and cognitive flexibility.

In summary, breathwork offers quick relief from stress and long-term benefits for your overall well-being, making it a powerful tool for both immediate and sustained health improvements.4o

Do I need prior experience to participate?

No prior experience is needed.

All levels are welcome, whether you’re new to breathwork or have practiced before. Each session begins with a robust introduction discussion, ensuring that you are fully prepared and comfortable before we even begin the breathwork. Guidance will be provided throughout the entire session, so you’ll have the support you need every step of the way.

Can breathwork help with anxiety or stress?

Yes, breathwork can be an incredibly effective tool for managing stress and anxiety. By consciously controlling your breath, you can directly influence your nervous system, promoting relaxation and reducing the physiological symptoms associated with stress and anxiety.

How It Works:

Activating the Parasympathetic Nervous System:
Breathwork helps shift your body from the "fight-or-flight" response, governed by the sympathetic nervous system, to a "rest-and-digest" state, controlled by the parasympathetic nervous system. This shift can lead to a profound sense of calm and relaxation, helping to alleviate feelings of stress and anxiety.

Mind-Body Connection: Through breathwork, you can develop a greater awareness of the connection between your body and mind. By focusing on your breath, you create space to observe your thoughts and emotions without becoming overwhelmed by them. This mindfulness aspect of breathwork can help you manage anxiety more effectively, as it allows you to respond to stressors with greater clarity and calmness.

Emotional Release: Breathwork can also facilitate the release of repressed emotions that may be contributing to your anxiety. During a session, you might experience a range of emotions as they surface and are processed. This release can lead to a sense of emotional lightness and relief, reducing the burden of stress and anxiety.

Physical Relaxation: The deep, rhythmic breathing techniques used in breathwork can help relax tense muscles and reduce physical manifestations of stress, such as headaches, chest tightness, or stomach discomfort. As your body relaxes, your mind often follows, creating a holistic reduction in anxiety.

How Often Should I Do Breathwork?

The frequency of breathwork sessions depends on your personal goals and needs. Some people benefit from regular weekly sessions, while others may prefer occasional practice. Your facilitator can help you determine what’s best for you.
